Welcome to the home of
Redditch Freecycle®
The Redditch
Freecycle® group is open to all who want to recycle/rehome
unwanted items rather than throw them away. Whether it's a
chair, a bicycle, a piano or anything that might be useful to
someone, offer it here. Or maybe you'd like to acquire
something yourself? Everyone including children and non-profit
groups are welcome to join!
The worldwide Freecycle Network is made up of
1,000`s of individual groups like ours, stretching across the
globe. It's a grassroots movement of people who are giving
(and getting) stuff for free in our own towns. Freecycle
groups match people who have things they want to get rid of
with people who can use them. Our goal is simply to keep
usable items out of landfills. By using what we already have
on this earth, we reduce consumerism, manufacture fewer goods,
and lessen our impact on the planet. Another benefit of using
Freecycle is that it encourages us to get rid of junk that we
no longer need and promote community involvement in the
process.
How does Redditch
Freecycle work?
When you have something to give away,
simply post an OFFER message to the group. If someone wants
what you`re offering, they`ll email you privately and you can
arrange collection. When your item has been claimed(or once
it`s actually been collected) post a TAKEN message to let
everyone know that item is no longer available. That`s it,
easy!! When you want something, it works in exactly the same way,
except this time you post a WANTED message and if/when someone is kind enough to
give you what you`re looking for, post a RECEIVED message!
PLEASE ALWAYS
SET OUT THE SUBJECT LINE AS FOLLOWS:
OFFER: mountain bike - Church Hill (to offer an item)
TAKEN: mountain bike - Church Hill (when your item is claimed)
OR
WANTED: three piece suite - Batchley (to request an item)
RECEIVED: three piece suite - Batchley (When you receive it)
This clear format is easy to read and helps the group run
smoothly and effectively for everyone`s benefit. Please ALWAYS include
your location, as shown above.
RULES (in brief): Everything posted must be free, legal and suitable for all ages. Please DO NOT post the
following - animals, weapons, vouchers/tokens, "adult"
material etc. Borrowing, swaps, requests/offers of services and crossposting to other Freecycle groups
are also strictly prohibited! Click Here to read the rules in full.
Upon joining, you will also receive the rules via email.
Please read the rules thoroughly before you start posting
messages, it will save you much hassle!!

History of The Freecycle Network
The Freecycle Network was started in 2003 in Tucson, Arizona, to promote waste reduction and help save desert landscape from being taken over by landfills. In just two years the idea had spread worldwide.
The Freecycle Network can now be found in over 75 countries, where there are thousands of local groups representing millions of members - people helping people and "changing the world one gift at a time." As a result, we are currently keeping over 300 tons a day out of landfills!
Redditch Freecycle was born on January 8th 2006. Like all Freecycle groups, our group is run entirely by local volunteers who give a little of our spare time in order benefit the environment and our local community.
Thanks to wonderful support from Worcester County Council, numerous articles in the local press and our own efforts at local community events, we have amassed more than 3,000 members in little over 18 months and are now one of the biggest and most active groups in the West Midlands!
Would you like to help promote Freecycle?
If you would like to help Redditch Freecycle find new members and keep more useful stuff out of landfill, we`d love to hear from you! There are various ways you can get involved - everything from simply handing out leaflets to friends or displaying a poster on your canteen noticeboard, to helping to run stalls at local community events or even joining our small team of message moderators!
